The Lincoln Railsplitters versus The South Bend Legends.
The Lincoln Railsplitters traveled to South Bend to open the BNG Football season. The AC North Division rival Railsplitters built their team with a strong defensive line while The Legends went the opposite side of the scrimmage line, and built the offensive line first. Which method would pay dividends first?
The opening quarter saw Lincoln move down the field on their opening possession and kick a field goal for a three point lead.
South Bend was definitely experiencing opening day jitters as WR Paul Greer fumble the ball after a three yard gain. Lincoln would take advantage as qb Carpenter hit wr Schneider for a big 47 yard touchdown.
"We had to settle the offense down, so we started calling a lot of run plays. It worked as we held the ball the rest of the quarter and started playing our game." Coach Myers.
That was the last time Lincoln threatened.
South Bend wound up winning the game 41-18.
Defensively, The Legends caused 4 fumbles but only recovered one, intercepted two passes, and sacked the Lincoln qb 4 times. The d also held the Railsplitters to only 163 total yards.
Offensively the Legends had their own problems holding onto the ball. South Bend fumbled three times, losing the pigskin twice, but threw no interceptions and allowed 4 sacks.
"We have to do a better job on the o-line. Four sacks is not a good day at all, especially where we drafted the offensive line." Coach Myers.
Game MVP honors went to Lincoln's Jessie "James" Dawson, a defensive end that registered three sacks.
Team Leaders

Pass defense: CB Ernie Witt intercepted two passes and defensed one pass.
Tackles: OLB Kevin Keeling led the team with 5 tackles.
